The Academy regularly asks its regional chairs for the outlook of its members over the upcoming 12 months and what are the big challenges facing their businesses. Despite the prominence of Brexit, the low pound and red-tape in the business headlines, the issue that’s regularly given as the most critical is ‘Talent’.
How do we business leaders, identify who are the right people to work in our teams, where do we recruit them and then retain them? Strategically, do we have a talent management programme in place, to continue the process of finding the right people for our companies? Often, it’s not until we sit among our peers, away from the day-to-day running of our businesses at a monthly Academy meeting, that we start to share and consider the ways to solve this on-going issue, of not having all the right people in our teams.
Another concern that’s regularly fed back to the Academy is Cyber Security. Upcoming changes to European GDPR laws will directly affect our responsibilities when handling sensitive data of staff and customers. These challenges, combined with recent hacking scandals, have also resulted in our members raising cyber security as an issue to be discussed further and the needing more support with.
Not only is the Academy keen to address these issues with members at regional or national meetings but also on a wider platform, to voice the concerns of members in the media. Whether this is online, on radio or television, to be a respected, authoritative voice speaking on behalf of its members, the Academy needs members to keep sharing their experiences and thoughts on the challenges they’re facing, so we can highlight these very real concerns. To make a public statement on behalf of members, the Academy and myself personally, rely on your input, detailing the challenges you’re facing and that are on the horizon. Please don’t hesitate to email me directly here with them.
