Academy Speaker and Clipper World Class Boat Race winner Brendan Hall, discusses the importance of orientation. After speaking onstage at our World Class Leadership Summit, he talks about the importance of focusing on the needs of others and yourself as a leader.
I think the question that every leader needs to ask themselves is where their orientation is. Whether it is inward on themselves and their own needs and their own desires and their own agenda or whether it’s outwards, on other people or the team around them or maybe on a particular person because in order to build that trust between yourself and the team or another individual they need to feel as though you’re there for them, you’re serving them, by doing that you’ll get the result that you want as well. But trust can be completely minimised or wiped out entirely if people think you’re only there for yourself.
